University Honors Program

Admissions Information

Students who graduate in the upper 10% of their high school class and have a composite ACT score of 27 or higher are invited to apply to the program. Students whose high school credentials are close to these minimum requirements may apply for provisional admission. Native NIU students or transfer students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher, and who have sufficient time remaining at NIU to complete Phase I and Phase II, and who desire to pursue University Honors, may apply for admission to Phase I of the Program.

Students of junior rank at NIU or who transfer to NIU from a community college or another college or university and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 may apply for admission to Phase II of the Program.

Transfer NIU students who have earned "B"s or better in honors courses taken at other schools may, upon verification apply these credit hours towards Phase I of full University Honors at NIU. However, students who fulfill Phase I requirements with transfer honors credit will not be awarded Lower Division Honors at Northern.

To apply for the University Honors Program, please fill out the form for admittance. There are forms for incoming freshman, transfer students, and current students.
